My Big Fat Gay Movie
Both of these movies are scheduled to be released this summer. American movies tend to be very heteronormative with gay characters relegated to side kicks or portrayed as tragic figures (Milk, Brokebake Mountain...). It will be nice to see two stories involving gay couples in which they are portrayed as a regular couple (admittedly I Love You Phillip Morris is not normal--it's more of a rom-com. but the plots/characters of those aren't normal anyway)

YES. I'm excited for I Love You, Phillip Morris, as silly as it will be.
ReplyDeleteThe plots of movies and books that contain LGBT characters seem to always be centralized around the fact that they are LGBT. Instead of a book about a GAY doctor, how about a book about a doctor who happens to be gay? We need to see their sexual orientations become a more secondary part of the plot. These movies both look promising.
